Makeup your Mind: the dos and don’ts for the individually pretty

Makeup dos: do whatever you like

Makeup don’ts: don’t do whatever they tell you to do just because they said it.

Do it if you like it.

Yasssssss. If you want to wear a specific color or type of makeup go for it. A lot

of women say I can’t wear that color or I don’t know how to apply makeup. You

don’t need to be a professional to take your everyday appearance to the next

level. A lot of people say that women of darker skin tones or with different eye

colors should only stick to a certain area of colors and avoid the latter. Call me

naïve but I do not want to believe this. It is a suggestion that may or may not

complement you but it is not in the makeup law book. Yes, you can wear that

neon yellow eye shadow with gold specks. Why? Because you said so. How?

Here is how. That color maybe too much for even the girl it was intended for. So

my makeup rebellious tip for you is to use that color but use a light hand. Build

up the look. Add and add until it is just right and personalized for you. You will

know when you have gone just too far... it will be the moment you start to feel

extremely uncomfortable and we have all been there.

Think of makeup like this: Makeup is art. Makeup is your paint, makeup brushes

are your tools and your face is your canvas. You do know how to apply makeup

because there are no mistakes in art.......wait I know you’re thinking that so and

so wearing that feather lashes with glue chunks throughout was definitely an

mistake in artwork, but not everyone likes Picasso. If you still insist you don’t have

the know-how get on YouTube and watch a few videos. There is one technique

you MUST learn and that is the art of blending. Blending can save your look 98.5

percent of the time. I want to encourage you to wear what you like and do what

you feel. It is all about developing your style and a trend for you. Yes makeup too

is a part of your style just like your clothes, shoes, accessories and hair styles. But

don’t forget that there is a time and a place for certain makeup looks. I say this so

that you factor in the professionalism of your job.

A bonus tip: if you want to try that outlandish color discreetly blend it with

another more complimentary color. Or you can use it on the inner corners and/or

lower lash lines for added pop. Whatever you do own it completely. Add a smile

and don’t forget to stay pretty.

    1. Trial and error Vanessa. You just have to try it out and see what works for you. Don't be afraid of color. Trust me you will be surprised with what you can get away with. You just have to do it.
